All Tomorrow's Parties is coming to Asbury Park. So is Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel).

All Tomorrow's Parties have announced that their annual artist curated fest will not be returning to Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, NY. Where will this epic music festival be moving too? Asbury Park, NJ of course. The 3 day fest is set to start Friday, September 30th and feature Jeff Mangum's first large public appearance of Neutral Milk Hotel songs in over a decade. Basically this is the closest thing we've seen to a Neutral Milk Hotel reunion since the group disbanded in 1999. Portishead will be curating the event, which will go by the name of 'I'll Be Your Mirror'.

As you may have guessed, the festival will be taking place at Asbury Park's Convention Center, Paramount Theatre, Asbury Lanes and the Berkeley hotel. Details on pass options, which go on-sale this Friday at 9AM via All Tomorrow Parties website, can be found below. Info on accommodations, schedules, travel info, etc. can be found here. This will be Portishead's first East Coast show since 1998! Bands such as: Chavez, Shellac, Cults and The Album Leaf have also been announced as apart of Friday's bill.

Bruce Springsteen @ Asbury Park's Carousel House

Last Tuesday Bruce Springsteen performed a very special set at Carousel House on the Asbury Park boardwalk. The short set was made up of mostly songs off the his recently released The Promise, which is an album made up of Darkness On The Edge of Town b-sides. The best part of the show probably is that it was attend by less than 60 people! The entire set can be watched above. More on the performance below. Read Rolling Stone's full review here.

Fifteen contest winners from the Springsteen fanzine Backstreets were allowed to bring a single guest, and 29 other VIP's (family, management, media) brought the total attendance to 59. Dozens of other hardcore fans braved the frigid weather to stand outside for hours to catch tiny glimpses of the show and hear what they could. Those inside got to stand so close that at most any other venue they would have been on the stage. Cameras crews whirled around the stage all night, occasionally bumping into the audience. Bands on a Budget's Touring Musician's Guide to Asbury Park

This past weekend, I met a band from England that was coming through Asbury Park to start their US tour. After helping them find everything from free food to entertainment, vintage records to guitar gear, it was more evident than ever how much of a hub Asbury is not only for local musicians, but for those passing through as well. We realize that getting a feel for this diverse city can be tricky to new-comers, so we've created a Guide to Asbury Park, for the touring musician.

Places to play.

Your band may be just passing through here to visit some of our historic music landmarks, but you don't have to be Bruce to play here. We have tons of places to play, ranging from 50 capacity rooms to 3,000+. Most local businesses are so musician-friendly, that if a band can physically fit in their space, they'll probably have someone playing in it. Because each venue is so unique, here is a guide to which places would suit your band the best.

This past Friday, Social Distortion were forced to cancel their performance at Asbury Park's The Stone Pony last minute due to illness. Openers Lucero and Frank Turner decided to go on with the show! Not just as planned though. Instead they decided to make it free for all! The modestly attended event just happened to feature a Bruce Springsteen cover of "Thunder Road" by none other than Frank Turner. Punknews.org caught some great videos of the show, which you should all check out here. If you missed it, we caught Frank Turner's set this past Summer at The Stone Pony Summer Stage while opening for The Gaslight Anthem.
