Music video: The Shins - "Simple Song"

With their much-anticipated Port of Morrow still a month away, The Shins have released a cinematic new music video. The clip accompanies “Simple Song”, the first single from the Portland band’s upcoming fourth album. DANIELS directs the video, which tells the tale of frontman James Mercer’s death.
In the clip, Mercer leaves a video will for his three kids (who also happen to be in The Shins) telling them that whoever finds the deed to the family home first gets it. The fictionalized Mercer is apparently trying to teach his kids something about getting along, but mostly he just proves that he’s a real jerk.
The “Simple Song” video is available as a free download through iTunes. The new album, Port of Morrow, is due out March 20 via Mercer’s own Columbia imprint Aural Apothecary.
