The Make-Up to reunite at ATP's I'll Be Your Mirror

After 12 years apart, post-punk band The Make-Up are (at least briefly) getting back together. The Washington D.C. band was something of a The Nation of Ulysees side-project composed of three of its five members (Ian Svenonius, James Canty Steve Gamboa) plus Michelle Mae and sometimes Alex Minoff.
Svenonius and crew called it quits back in 2000 and ever since then Svenonius has been recording solo as David Candy and with Mae and Minoff in Weird War and James Canty has been playing guitar with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. The Make-Up apparently ended things on good terms but with what seemed to be a definite finality. Svenonius told Free Williamsburg back in 2003 “It went on for five years. We had a five year plan like Stalin. It was becoming redundant”.
Apparently the five year plan wasn’t enough, though, since The Make-Up will be performing at ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror Festival this year. The annual festival takes place in London from May 25 to 27 and will be headlined by Slayer, Mogwai, and the Afghan Whigs. It’s still unclear whether this is a one show deal for The Make-Up or a full-on reunion. Listen to The Make-Up’s “Wade in the Water” below.
