News broke today that Blur is officially working on their first album in nine years, but frontman Damon Albarn has another record in the works as well. Albarn (who also fronts/is Gorillaz) is recording with Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nigerian drummer Tony Allen (who was previously worked with Albarn in The Good, the Bad and the Queen). The supergroup trio goes by the name Rocketjuice and the Moon (or sometimes Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up!) and have been planning an album since 2008 when they apparently shared a flight to Lagos. With worldwide tours and new records from Albarn, Flea, and Allen in the last few years, though, the project kept getting postponed.
Now the trio’s self-titled debut full-length is officially on the way. The album is due out March 26 and includes 18 tracks recorded in Albarn’s Studio 13 in London. Erykah Badu, Fatoumata Diawara, M. anifest and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble all have guest spots on the upcoming album. Given Red Hot Chili Peppers' extensive tour schedule and Damon Albarn's new projects with Blur and Gorillaz, though, it will likely be quite awhile before Rocketjuice and the Moon do much touring.
