Show Review: Hoodie Allen @ Webster Hall 8.16 (setlist, video)

A near sold-out crowd is what awaited NYC rapper Hoodie Allen this past Tuesday at Webster Hall. He was originally supposed to have performed at the Studio at Webster Hall downstairs but strong demand found the rapper headlining in the Grand Ballroom. The opening act, Pennsylvania duo Fortune Family, took the stage and gave the crowd a tight performance as they traded lines back and forth. You can check out their recent mixtape Paradox here. Zak! Downtown was up next and while the NYU student gave a nice performance, parts of the crowd (or at least where I was standing) weren't really into him. Richard Andrew, better known as Outasight, went on and delivered a great performance... right after he slipped on stage during the first song. Not even a tumble could stop him from dishing out a tight set with his live band. You can download his latest EP Figure 8 (which features the very catchy title track) for free here.

The anticipation for Hoodie Allen was huge but soon as he stormed the stage (with scantily-clad dancers at his side), the crowd erupted. Hoodie ran through songs from "Pep Rally" and his latest mixtape "Leap Year" (which has seen over 90,000 downloads since its release a few weeks ago). During the encore (which included Hoodie's popular tracks "The Chase Is On" and "You Are Not A Robot") confetti, balloons and crowdsurfing took place as Hoodie delivered a set that no one will forget anytime soon. You can check out some live video taken from his set below as well as his setlist. You can download his new mixtape Leap Year here.
