Pete Doherty going to jail for six months

Pete Doherty is headed back to jail for six months. The sentence comes after the English songwriter pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in connection to the January 2010 incidental drug overdoes of filmmaker Robin Whitehead, who was making a documentary on Doherty at the time. Peter Wolfe, Doherty's friend and musician, whose apartment Whitehead OD in is headed to jail for 12 months. More over at BBC. Excerpt below.

Peter Ratliff, defending Doherty, said any claim his client somehow glamorised drug use was misguided and said the singer was trying to give it up.

He said Doherty was on a solo tour, is starring in a film and has designed his own clothing range and if he were to be jailed he would be letting down countless people he worked with.

But the judge said the singer had an "appalling record" of committing offences, having already made 13 other court appearances and been jailed twice for drugs and burglary offences.

He told Doherty "no doubt... you are a talented and successful musician" but said he should receive the "appropriate penalty" regardless of his career.
