Stephen Malkmus & L.A. Guns record a split 7" for Matador's new series

After a narrowly avoided copyright dispute, Stephen Malkmus and L.A. Guns have apparently buried the hatchet. Malkmus and his band, the Jicks, wanted to name their recent LP L.A. Guns until they started worried about Johnny Law. The album (which ended up being called Mirror Traffic) would have been a little too identical to the name of a certain 80s glam-metal outfit.
Well now, four months later, Matador has announced an upcoming split 7” from Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and L.A. Guns. Malkmus will do L.A. Guns’ “Wheel of Fire”, and L.A. Guns will do Malkmus’ “Gorgeous George”.
This is just the first in a new series from Matador: “Signles Going Home Alone”. This first single comes out on January 17, followed by a March 20 release from the OBN IIIs, and a May 22 single from The Men. The subscription-based series will include six of these limited edition singles throughout 2012.
