Third Man releases White Stripes reissues & John C. Reilly singles

Jack White’s label, Third Man Records, announced a whole bunch of exciting releases yesterday. The label is putting out eight new or long-lost White Stripes songs on four single reissues: “The Big Three Killed My Baby” with “Red Bowling Ball Ruth”, “Lord Send Me an Angel” with “You’re Pretty Good Looking (Trendy American Remix)”, “Candy Cane Children” with “Reading of the Story of the Magi”, and “Hello Operator” with “Jolene”. With the duo’s official break-up earlier this year, these might be the last White Stripes tracks ever to see the light of day.

Third Man is also helping that master of comedy and drama, John C. Reilly, start a musical career with two singles, both coming out on November 29th. Reilly’s musical endeavor is probably what you would expect from the guy, an old-timey, harmonic, country-blues sort of thing. The first release includes the songs “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar” and “Lonesome Yodel Blues #2”, both written by the Delmore Brothers. On these tracks (credited as John & Tom) Reilly duets with Tom Brosseau and gets a little help from Olivia Jean of the Black Belles, Fats Kaplin, and Jack White. Reilly also teams up with Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond as Becky & John. The duo performs a Ray Price song, “I’ll Be There If You Ever Want”, and a Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner track, “I’m Making Plans”.

Additionally, Third Man is also selling some awesome things for music nerds. They’ve got a new 45 carrying-case, a vinyl cleaning kit, an iphone case made from old records, and their own AUX cable. Best of all, though, is the Third Man-Crosley portable turntable with USB capabilities. All of the special merchandise goes on sale December 1st. Preview John & Tom’s “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar” and Becky & John’s “I’ll Be There If You Ever Want” below.
