The Cake Shop, a small intimate venue located on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, hosted Trap Them along with opening acts Black Anvil, All Pigs Must Die, and Psychic Limb.  The show was sold out to a crowd of die-hard underground metal fans, within the starting minutes the wall of sound, and endless aggression shook the Cake Shop all night long.

Psychic Limb a four piece, grind outfit started off with a relentless grind assault on the crowd with quick songs with enough blast beats to fill most metal shows. With a few equipment troubles they played their entire latest album, which they definitely pulled off in their short 20min set.

The next band to hit the stage, was All Pigs Must Die that has members from Converge, Bloodhorse, and The Hope Conspiracy. The Brooklyn based band played some of the meanest new thrash that I’ve heard to date. They performed a new song from the upcoming LP called “3rd World Genocide” which was malicious full of anger, its something I can’t wait to get my hands on. They announced at the show that they have just finished recording a new LP with Kurt Ballou (Converge). If you haven’t heard of this band I highly suggest you pick up their self-titled EP that is out now.

The third band to hit the stage was Black Anvil. The NYC based band brings a very raw version of black metal to the stage that is new and refreshing. They are one of many new US based black metal bands.  Each song was crushing and filled with so much doom & hopelessness it only seemed right to set the tone for the headliners of the night Trap Them.

Trap Them a band from all over the US (Seattle, New Hampshire, Kentucky) have grown over the years and with this performance you could see their progression. With the aide of Andy Williams of Every Time I Die on 2nd guitar, Trap Them opened the night’s first mosh pit with songs “Fucking Viva”, “Mission Convincers” and “Digital with Analog Collars”.

Ryan McKeeny (vocals) screams with such ferocity, you can’t help but scream the opening lyrics of “The Protest Hour” along with him. With Stephen LaCour (bass) and new drummer Chris Maggio (ex-Coliseum) holding down some of the thickest low-ends and keeping this d-beat beat grind machine running effortlessly. Brian Izzi (guitar) creates this buzz saw sound, that has shaped the bands sound since their first album.  He continue to do so on the new song “The Facts” which will be out March 1st  via Prosthetic Records, on their first LP for the label titled Darker Handcraft. This song has so much swing to it will get anyone willing to put their body on the line moving in the pit. If you haven’t seen them yet, you best make it out to their next show.
