Rush @ PNC Bank Arts 9.3.10
Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 5:06 AM Rush fought through the not so massively destructive Hurricane Earl last night to put on a solid set for an eager NJ crowd. The Star-Ledger's Tris McCall attended the show and wrote a comprehensive review of the night that can be read here. Excerpt below. Setlist and video after the fold.
At other concerts, listeners sing along; at Rush shows, they're as likely to playalong. Fans have memorized every note, every riff, and every drum fill in the group's immense back catalog. They know when to pump their fists and shout "hey" during "2112," they know when to prepare for a thunderous drum barrage in "YYZ." Attendees were thrilled to hear "Tom Sawyer"; they also went wild for the little-known (outside the fanbase, I mean; within the fanbase, everything is well-known) "Marathon," an album track from 1985's "Power Windows." This affords the members of Rush -- bassist and singer Geddy Lee, drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, and guitarist and class clown Alex Lifeson -- great flexibility when designing a set. They don't have to stick to the hits: they can entertain the crowd, and themselves, with deep cuts, new material, and re-energized versions of tracks from long-forgotten sets. [Tris McCall - NJ.com]
