Ducktails

Etc.

Wavves stopped by Montclair's Meat Locker last night to play their first ever NJ performance. The show, which was presented by yours truly also happened to be the last of their East Coast run (excluding a private Fader event in NYC that takes place tomorrow). The setlist featured pretty much all of the old material you'd expect to hear with the groups new songs including "Post Acid", "King of the Beach", "Take On The Word", "Super Soaker" and possibly others?
The San Diego trio just moved up the release of their 3rd studio album King of the Beach to July 1st (originally August 3rd) due to it leaking sometime ago. After having listened to it a few times myself I'd say it might even surpass their last LP. For a thorough evaluation of the yet-to-be released record go here. You can pre-order the record (and I highly suggest you do) here. A video of Wavves performing the title track off of their soon-to-be released album can be found below.
NJ locals, Ducktails also joined Wavves on the bill. If you didn't know Ducktails is lead by Matt Mondanile, who is also in a band called Real Estate. Surprisingly, yet unsurprisingly both of Matt's bands have been garnering a bunch of critical acclaim as well as impressive followings. The first and only other time I've seen Ducktails, Matt was by himself with a pedal board and microphone sitting on the floor of Brooklyn's Monster Island Basement. Now a full band, Ducktails sound reaches its full potential live. I also expect the newly formed line-up to effect the groups recorded work in a very positive way. Look to see these guys on the road come September, but also be sure to check out Real Estate at Maxwell's July 10th w/ Kurt Vile. Tickets for that can be found here.
GDP, Washington Square Park and Byrds of Paradise opened the show. Word on the street is GDP will be announcing a new label (a very good one) soon. Expect to find out what label it is in the coming weeks. Washington Square Park just released their debut full-length album June 22nd. You'll be able to stream it in it's entirety on Absolutepunk.net starting Wednesday. Also, be sure to check them out on The Gunz Show tomorrow at 9:30pm. Byrds of Paradise are set to release a new 7" titled Omega Man via Don Giovanni Records. You can pre-order that here.

This show ruled hard. New wavves album is great too. Ducktails were cool. I'll have to check them out more. Finally got to see GDP live, best night.
