The Frontbottoms - Tour Diary (Part 2)

The Frontbottoms were kind enough to check in with The NJ Underground again from the road. If you missed the last one, you obviously missed out and can read about the first leg of their tour. Brian Uychich, keyboardist for the band provides an introspective look at life on tour, a critique of the national bar scene and a discussion of the joys of King Cobra Premium Malt Liquor.

"Here's our next update. So we get to Jacksonville, North Carolina and it's a huge military town and there were like six tattoo shops. We ended up eating at this place called 'Hilda's', a soul food place. Hilda's had the best fried chicken I have ever had. They had us featured as a headliner but we weren't gonna play until 12:30AM. By the time we went on there were like 4 people left. We killed the set and the sound guy told us that 'the town was not ready for us'. We headed out to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We had camp site reserved for Thursday and Friday and Wednesday we were going to stay at a friend's place. Thank you Ryan Boyd! The next day we checked into the site and swam in the ocean. In my humble opinion, Myrtle Beach is the same quality of ocean as North Carolina, so its not worth the extra few hours drive. We then got to the bar where we had played. Matt went and found a gay pride record store and the owner told matt we could play in his window Friday - we didn't have a show Friday and it was going to be our day off, so we took it! So back to the bar I was talking about! It was a newer bar, so in an effort to try to get known, we got free drinks. We were ready to play to the hardest audience we have ever had to play to - 40 bikers and their biker girlfriends. They were super pumped that a law passed where they no longer need helmets and kept calling us names. After about two songs they were cheering and making me and Brian Sella do shots that they bought us. We went over super well it poured shortly after and we abandoned our tent site to stay with Ryan again! Thanks Ryan Boyd again! He had 2 beds and air conditioning, which was great. The gay pride record store was cool too! They are having a pride event down there in August with 1,500 people and they want us to play! We camped last night and swam in the ocean. We also finished a 40oz of King Cobra that we been sipping on since Maryland."
