The Riverwinds

Jonah Matranga made three stops in NJ this past week with the first one being at Asbury Park's Watermark. Shore Alternative hosted the secret/private show at the upscale club on the Asbury Park boardwalk. Watermark is definitely one of the best places to see a smaller sized show ever. The atmosphere was perfect and the bands back drop of was the beach, what more could you want?
First up was Red Bank's The Riverwinds who are a rock group with some folk mixed in for good measure. Strong melodies and a impressive chemistry between the members made for a enjoyable set. The Riverwinds have a bunch of area shows coming up, you can check out all of them here.
Next up was Asbury Park's Status Green, a group which has been gaining plenty of recognition not only from music fans, but also from media outlets all over. Wednesday's show was their homecoming appearance after having been on the road for a month long U.S. tour. The group also just put out a record titled Cheap Sunglasses, which if you haven't yet can be picked up here.
Jonah Matranga performed his set completely solo (well, plus a beat machine). The set included most of his solo material with a few old songs and covers thrown in. Covers included Weezer's "Say It Ain't So" and my personal favorite Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees", which was also sung with a Watermark's bartender. The hour or so long set didn't seem to disappoint the packed crowd. I can only hope for many more shows at Watermark in the future.
