Rant: For The Scam is more like it.
Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 11:22 AM So I'm going online and I see someone posting about a Battle of The Bands competition in New Jersey called For The Tour where the winner gets a week-long tour booked in the northeast with "real promoters, real venues and real guarantees". Stuff like this make me sick to my fucking stomach. Here are a couple of "rules" that they have posted:
Do we need to sell a certain amount of tickets to make it to round two?
Yes, you will need to sell at least 45 tickets to make it to round two. Having a strong fanbase in your hometown areas is the first thing any band needs to establish before even thinking about hitting the road.
So the band has to give you about $1,400 dollars and you'll book a seven day tour for them? Yeah, this doesn't sound like a scam AT ALL.
Will my band be getting paid for the shows on tour?
Yes you will be getting paid, not a lot but enough for gas.
I thought that the band was going to get "real guarantees". "Not a lot but enough for gas" sounds like they'll be getting $60 probably.
I'm friends with a bunch of unsigned local bands who tour whenever they can. They don't need a lame excuse of a contest to book a week-long tour. There's a really great thread on Absolutepunk that has booking contacts all across America. To be honest,I'll lose all respect for any bands that actually sign up for this hoax. These wannabe music industry people need to stop trying to make money off of local bands.

PLEASE PRYOR, DON'T HURT 'EM!
But this way they get real guarantees. I don't see the problem with guaranteeing guarantees for some up and coming bands. On top of that competition is good in any market. We will all benefit by bands fighting each other for a shot at real legit venues. I'm not talking back yards and basements here.
Fuck (most) New Jersey music. Definitely FUCK Max Cruise, excess db and everyone involved with them. They take the heart out of music and are only concerned with making money. Next time anyone plays one of their venues, don't sell any fucking tickets.
I hope you die, Max Cruise.
could not have said it better myself
i'm in one of those unsigned local bands that tp is friends with and, while shit like this pisses me off, only stupid, young, and illogical bands will fall for this scam. anyone who tours or plays shows seriously should be quick to realize what a waste of time, effort, and money this is.
but hey, if you wanna throw me $1000+ i'll book you a tour with "real guarantees" too... real guarantees that no one will be there
