The Party Zone 3.20.10

This past Saturday The Party Zone featured a line up of more great bands than most formal NJ venues would be able to score on one bill. The Fairfield show house at its peak probably had 200+ plus attendees.
The first band I caught was Brooklyn's Miniboone. I've been listening to the groups new EP Big Changes a lot lately. I highly suggest picking up a copy. You can check out a great review of Big Changes here. Miniboone seemed to put extra care into making sure they weren't just simply regurgitating what they recorded on their EP by adding charisma and showing off their high level of musicianship during their performance.
The next band was MVW (aka Man vs Wild), which was a change of pace I could appreciate. The North Jersey punk/thrash group seemed to receive the best crowd response of the night, which was probably because they know how to keep up the energy of their live show without sacrificing their sound.
Next was Killed by the Bull, a group that happens to be one of my current favorite punk bands coming out of New Jersey. From listening to their record it wasn't surprising to see their lead singer Justin Fullam get so into his performance that he looked like he was having a seizure on the basement floor. Either way it was quite entertaining. You can pick up their latest full length Failing is Fun here.
The last band I was able to catch was Hoover Flags, an NJ underground hardcore super group of sorts. The band features ex members of Folly, The Banner and Tokyo Rose. The North Jersey outfit played their unique brand of punk music that features both pop and hardcore elements to a receptive crowd. The group, which also clearly draws influences from 90's punk bands Lifetime & Kid Dynamite closed out the night on a solid note.
