Natives of Sparta, New Jersey, and veteran rockers, From Good Homes, will be playing two shows this weekend as a part of their residency at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. After achieving success throughout the 1980's and early 1990's the band split up due to artistic differences. The band was able to achieve mainstream success and several record deals with RCA due to extensive touring and a unique and soulful sound. From Good Homes also helped a few bands get their start - Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band and Hootie and The Blowfish were all openers for From Good Homes at the starts of their careers. To prepare for the residency, From Good Homes played a very secret intimate show at The Mercury Lounge in New York City back in November where the band was billed as "Jefferson Township".
"Since the breakup, Sheaffer co-founded the neo-bluegrass band Railroad Earth, Fitzsimmons has re-emerged as a singer-songwriter-guitarist, and Rymer has become a Grammy-nominated children’s entertainer. Guitarist-mandolinist-fiddler Coan plays in the South Carolina band the Red Top Ramblers, and saxophonist Myers has done session and production work, and owns a recording studio in Budd Lake.
"Over the last 10 years," says Fitzsimmons, "every once in a while when one of us would run into each other it would be like, ‘Well, we should get back together.’ But everybody was doing their own thing, and the timing just wasn’t right, for different reasons."
But, he said, when the Bowery Presents, the company that books shows at the Wellmont, made an offer this fall, the timing finally seemed right.
According to Sheaffer, the Montclair shows will be devoted to mainstays of the group’s ’90s repertoire, as well as more obscure album tracks." - NJ.com
