Interview: Humble Beginnings

How did you guys come about playing these two reunion shows?
Basically we got an email from Mike from Lanemyer asking us if we would be down to do a reunion show , everyone thought it would be a fun idea to give them a shot so i suggested that we all get together both bands and have a little reunion before the shows and to just solidify that we where for sure going to do it. We met at maxwells for drinks and it was an awesome time to see everyone and catch up on our lives.
What are the members up to these days?
Jobs/Careers/School and everyone is still playing music, Josh has been playing with Patent Pending I started a new band called A Balance Between, Rob is playing with a band called Los Miguelinos and Chris has been jamming with people on and off.
Many of you went on to be apart of bands that reached a wider range of success then HB did. Any regrets towards how things turned out/ended with Humble Beginnings?
I don't think anyone in the band has any regrets from playing together ,we where all young not knowing much about life or music really we just did what we did with passion for playing , I'd say if there was any sort of regret it would be not knowing what it could have been. i think HB had a lot of potential when it came to pop punk like it was almost ahead of it's time in a way and I think we could have been a successful band if we had stayed together but it just wasn't meant I guess but it served its purpose for a really special time in our lives and other kids in the scene.
What is your favorite Humble Beginnings memory?
That is a hard one because there's so many but for me but I'd say recording the eyeball e.p. and the few tours we did with Lanemyer and whippersnapper. We where all like 19 traveling with maps being crazy kids, those are probably some of my personal best memories hands down when playing in bands.
What can people expect to hear from your reunion shows set lists?
It took us sometime to decide what we where going play because there was a lot of songs to go through but basically we're playing everything off the Eyeball Records E.P., The youth and cunning split E.P. we did with Bracket, The Southern California E.P. and The We wear Vans E.P., A total of like 15 songs.
Your Maxwell's show has already sold out and your Court Tavern date is expected to as well. Did you anticipate this type of reaction prior to announcing these reunion shows?
I don't think any of us really thought about it much we just wanted to have fun with it regardless if there was 50 people there or sold out but it's for sure nice to know people wanted to share this good time with us and make it fun two nights.
Many would attribute apart of Humble Beginnings initial success to the support of the NJ music scene. Any words of advice for young NJ bands trying to build up a local following?
I'd say first off make sure your having fun doing what your doing, promote yourself as much as possible with all the tools of today and just don't give up on it, Its one thing if your trying to make a career out of music or doing it because you love it , but no matter what it is you need to be passionate about it.
What are you looking forward to most when it comes to these reunion shows?
Having a fun night with everyone and basically celebrating a time that was important and special in our lives.
