Dan Deacon, No Age & Deerhunter stopped by the Medford Flying W Pool & Airport this past Saturday August 1st while on their short stint together. While some of us were hiking around in the mud at All Points West, it seems that 90 minutes south there were perfect conditions for the round robin style chaos. R5 Productions does shows mostly out of Philadelphia, but luckily they brought this event over to Jersey. An excerpt from a review of their show the next night in Brooklyn is below.
After an opening act, the three headliners performed "round robin" style. For the uninitiated, this uniquely Baltimorian style of performance involves all acts performing on stage at once, switching after every song. It is certainly more egalitarian than the traditional mode of performance (a boon to the musicians), while the format inherently lends itself to a more varied type of show -- one where inter-band collusions are very common. In a highlight of the evening, Dan Deacon spontaneously dueted with Deerhunter's Bradford Cox (a truly genial soul who thanked audience members while waiting in the very long queue). [Brooklyn Music]

Looks like it was a great time. Dan Deacon shows are always fun! How was the round robin style? I've never seen it in "action" before.

The round robin style was one of the best parts... they were all pretty close to one another so all you had to do was to turn your head to see the next band... no age put on a great show even after they invited everyone on stage and the brums got knocked over and then the mic went out...
but Dan Deacon is a true showmen! I would love to see his next show.

That fat guy is not cool at all. He's the reason the mics went out with no age and at another point Dan Deacon SCREAMED at him for always ruining his shows. I might not get the wording right but hearing Dan Deacon scream into the mic, "Yo fatass! Get the fuck out of the circle! You always ruin my fucking shows you asshole!" was insane since Dan is such a happy guy. But that dude is always ruining shows for people in Philadelphia.

he was ok... he was like that little kid at a family party who wants to play with you.. its fun for about 10min. and then its like "ok give me a break"
my fav part was how cox and deacon (one more then the other) railed against corporations not being present...and then you look around and see "Miller Lite" labels just everywhere...the crowd came for the music not personal politics
Thank you to everyone who can out for this! The Flying W Pool Parties was a year in planning and this show made it all worth it!
