Grand Duchy (with Frank Black) @ Maxwell's 7.17.09
Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 8:16PM Grand Duchy

Most people would brand Grand Duchy, Frank Black's solo/side project, but anyone who has actually given their music a chance would know that Frank Black and his wife Violet Clark have been doing things differently than anything Frank Black has been a part of in the past. Grand Duchy songs have a very modern sound, with most of the vocals coming from Violet Clark.
The set itself took place after over an hour of setup technical difficulties, to which Frank Black tried to put an end to by making his way to the stage multiple times, only to be sent back until things were figured out. When the band finally did take the stage the irritation from the waiting quickly subsided. Grand Duchy opened with the always enjoyable "Come on Over to My House" and then proceeded to play a set filled of songs from their album, Petits Fours. Overall Grand Duchy's set exceeded expectations as, seeing them in a such an intimate setting was truly a great experience. Hopefully they will be back on the East Coast soon.
